INJURY-RIDDLED MURPHY'S SPLITS WITH STADIUM, 12-GAME LBSL WIN STREAK SNAPPED

LANGHORNE — Even the best things in life can’t be sustained forever.

Injury-riddle Murphy’s saw its 12-game Lower Bucks Softball League winning streak come to a halt in a 16-12 loss to Stadium Huskies in Game One. But in typical Murphy’s fashion bounced back with a 14-10 victory in Game Two Sunday morning at Core Creek Park.

Kevin Maloney went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI in the first game and T.J. Coles (2-for-4, triple, two RBIs, two runs), Jimmy Trochak (2-for-3, RBI), Joe Faust Jr. (2-for-4, triple, two runs, RBI), Dave Rossi (2-for-4, two runs) Sean Walker (2-for-3, run, RBI) and Josh Yeager (2-for-3, double, two RBIs and a run) all contributed two hits.

Brendan Lambert-Ryan – aka. Dan Rosar – walked with the bases loaded walk to spark a four-run second inning. Coles laced a two-run triple and Maloney closed out the inning with a run-scoring single.

Yeager had a two-run double in the third inning, Dave Rossi added an RBI single later in the frame and Andrew Graham, Trochak and Faust Jr. added RBIs in the seventh as Murphy’s battled to keep their winning streak intact.

While a few defensive missteps ultimately kept the good guys from keeping their impressive winning streak alive, working six walks proved to be a bright spot the boys could build off of.

Only twice last season – against the Not So Athletics and The Sillies – during a 26-5 (23-3 LBSL) campaign that culminated in an LBSL championship did Murphy’s draw five-plus walks a game.

Jimmy Trochak went 4-for-6 with four RBIs, including a key two-run triple
in the seventh inning as Murphy's bounced back from their first loss of the
season to salvage a split with Stadium Huskies. Murphy's is now 5-1.

Murphy’s followed the six walks in Game One – two from Graham and one each from Trochak, Walker, Christie and Lambert-Ryan – by working seven in Game Two.

Trochak singled home Coles to get the boys on the board first in the top of the first. Stadium pushed across three in the bottom half of the frame but Murphy’s responded with a four spot.

Christie got it started with a two-out RBI double and two batters later Coles bombed a three-run homer to deep left field. Christie would help chase another run around in the fourth on a fielder’s choice.

With Murphy’s holding on to a slim 6-5 lead entering the fifth, the good guys finally got the offense into gear with a five-run frame. Trochak got the inning into motion with a sacrifice fly, Walker ripped a two-run triple and Simpson put a charge into a two-run triple.

Stadium scored twice in the bottom of the inning and three times in the bottom of the sixth to pull with a run again, 11-10, entering the seventh.

Maloney led off the inning with a triple to left field and Graham followed by working a walk. Both came around to score on Trocak’s opposite-field, momentum-shifting triple. Walker added a key insurance run by scoring Trochak on a sacrifice fly.

The boys are back in action again this Sunday at 9 a.m. against Manny Brown’s Bullies at Core Creek Park’s Upper Field. Manny Brown’s (2-4) dropped both games the opening weekend against Fox Hunt Tavern and split over the last two weeks against Carmen’s and McStews.

SHORTHANDED, BANGED-UP MURPHY'S POUNDS PARK AMERICA INC., MOVES TO 4-0

LANGHORNE — Missing two starters, having at least two more starters banged up and spotting Park America Inc. a quick seven-run lead, the Murphy’s softball team’s prospects of remaining undefeated looked bleak.

Prospects smroshpects.

Murphys’ responded with 12 straight runs over the next two innings, riding the offensive surge to a 21-11 win in Game One at Core Creek Park and rode that momentum surge to a 20-13 victory in Game Two to remain undefeated on the season.

Evan “Moose Slayer” Christie had a monster day in going 6-for-8 with six RBIs and five runs scored and Kevin Maloney went 8-for-10 with six RBIs, seven runs and a three-run homer.
Dow 7-0 in the bottom of the second inning in the first game, T.J. Coles kicked the offense in gear with a one-out single.

Josh Yeager ripped an RBI single, Jay Dreyer followed with a single and Sean Walker worked a walk to load the bases for Christie, who lined a two-run single. Matt “Hollywood” Harker kept the rally going with a single and Maloney followed it up with a two-run double. Jimmy Trochak put his stamp on the seven-run frame with a sacrifice fly.

Murphy’s posted a five-spot in the third inning to take a 12-7 lead but Park America cut the difference to one with a four-run fifth inning.

Murphy’s broke the game open for good with an eight-run sixth inning in which the boys strung together nine hits and sent 12 batters to the plate.

Evan Christie went 6-for-8 with six RBIs to help
Murphy's to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Flipping the script from the first game, Murphy’s jumped out to a 9-0 lead going to the bottom of the third on the strength of a three-run first, a four-run second and a two-run third.

Harker led the game off with a double, moved to third on Maloney’s single and scored on Graham’s sacrifice fly. Maloney came around to score on Coles’ single and Joe Faust Jr. plated “The Dirt Monster” with a single.

Murphy’s used their second double-digit frame in as many weeks – a 10-run fourth – to build what proved to be an insurmountable 19-2 lead and got Moose and his boys’ panties all tied up in a bunch.
Maloney led off the fourth with a single came around to score from first on Graham’s double. Coles and Trochak followed with singles and Faust Jr. and Mike Faust worked back-to-back walks.

Yeager followed with an RBI single and Christie followed with his second two-run single on the day. Maloney capped the inning by driving a three-run homer to left-center field.

Park America responded with a seven-run bottom half of the inning and gained a little bit of momentum when the 5-foot-10, 140-pound “Moose Slayer” absolutely, positively tried to take out the 6-foot-4, 235-pound Moose on a play at the plate. Ha ha.

But Murphy’s flashed enough defense down the stretch to hold on for the seven-run win.

Maloney went 4-for-5 in game two and Graham (3-for-4, two runs, three RBIs), Coles (3-for-5, two runs, two RBIs), Faust Jr. (3-for-3, two runs, two RBIs), Walker (3-for-4, three RBIs, run) and Christie (3-for-4, two runs, two RBIs) all contributed three-hit games.

Murphy’s is back in action this Sunday morning at 9 when they take on Stadium Huskies (1-3)

at Core Creek Park (back field). Stadium Huskies split with Park America in Week One and fell to Cosmos Restaurant & Bar, 17-11 and 20-19, last weekend.
